STEMbox, Monthly Science Experiments At Your Door!
There are subscription services for clothes, makeup and even your dog, but now one Seattle-area biologist is introducing a subscription service that will deliver science experiment kits to your door.
Developed to encourage STEM skills in girls, StemBox will focus on a new science kit every month with fun themes like dissecting owl pellets, strawberry DNA extraction and other topics to help get girls more interested in science.
Kina McAllister, a research tech at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, created StemBox for young women who are interested in scientific experiments but might also be frustrated with what’s out there for them.
“Growing up I’ve always loved science, but finding science kits for girls that weren’t just about soap and makeup was always a struggle,” writes McAllister on her StemBox Kickstarter page. “Even today we see lots of ‘gross’ and messy science kits marketed for boys in toy aisles and not enough of those science kits in the girls’ aisles.”
After about a year of development and testing, McAllister is ready to bring the kit to market. She says that future boxes will focus on: “Aviation and aerodynamics, computer programming games, astronomy and space sciences, crystallized structures and rock candy, math and spacial reasoning, bacteria and culturing, pH and Litmus Strip scavenger hunts, chromatography and candy, and engineering kits.”
StemBox is a great gift giving idea, offering 1month, 3month, & 6month options sure to keep kids excited & engaged! Use code "stem" for 10% off your order at MyStemBox.com!
