World's Tallest Female Designed Skyscraper
An American architect & one of the world's most prominent female architects, Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang, has done it! Introducing Chicago's Vista Residences, a new tower that when completed will be the world's tallest female designed skyscraper standing at 1,140-feet-tall (348 metres)! The designed is comprised of three sister towers, snuggled up side by side, standing at 47, 71, & 93 stories tall, & overlooks Chicago's Hudson River & Lake Michigan. Rock on, sister!
Gang's inspiration for the form of Vista Residences comes from nature, a crystal formation called "frustum"... it's like a pyramid with the top chopped off. Gang then stacked them on top of each other, alternating upright & upside down, in order to create the easy, seamless, & undulating massing. To then emphasize the soft, beautiful waves in the facade, glass in colors taken from water & varying from darker to lighter, are placed in a way to deepen the depths and lighten the peaks of the waving exterior.

Vista Residences are scheduled for completion in 2020, and will comprise both a hotel & residences, in addition to a wine cellar, a tasting room, & a demonstration kitchen on the northern edge of Chicago's Lakeshore East development.

"The project is backed by Chinese developer Wanda Group and Chicago-based Magellan Development Group. The initial design was first unveiled in late 2014.
'This will be a huge contributor to the Lakeshore East community, one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods to live in Chicago,' said Magellan in a recent statement.
Master planned by SOM, the Lakeshore East development was built on the site of a former rail yard. It already includes apartment blocks, shops, a school, and a hotel, all of which are arranged around a central park."

"Other projects by Studio Gang include a 14-story apartment building proposed for Miami, a social justice centre in Michigan, and a boathouse in Chicago.
The firm is also providing urban design services for a new George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art along Chicago's waterfront, with MAD leading the architectural design.
Chicago has been in the headlines lately, as the city gears up for its first Chicago Architectural Biennial. Opening 3 October, the international event will feature exhibitions, installations, and more than 300 programs."
